Columbia University Announces Partnership with the Salim Ahmed Salim Digital Archive

Dar es Salaam / Nairobi: Columbia University’s Nairobi Global Center (CGC Nairobi), a center that promotes and facilitates collaborative and impactful engagement between Columbia University and the world, has announced a historic partnership with the Salim Ahmed Salim Digital Archive (SAS Digital Archive). The partnership encompasses an exclusive series of webinars exploring the life and legacy of Dr. Salim and drawing lessons from the Archive with a group of esteemed academics, diplomats and practitioners.

Dr Salim is an alumnus of Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, where he simultaneously served as Tanzania’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations while pursuing his studies. The important partnership with Columbia University and the SAS Digital Archive will host conversations that inspire action towards enhanced leadership to fast track development on the continent by drawing from the Archives' historical insight of global politics in an African context across six decades. ,

Commenting on the partnership, Dr. Murugi Ndirangu, Director of the Columbia Global Center in Nairobi stated:

“The promise of a more vibrant and fast-growing Africa lies in nurturing good leadership values. These values should prioritize not only economic development but also the respect and empowerment of African people. Dr. Salim, a close friend of CGC | Nairobi, exemplifies these principles and inspires us to take pride in representing the African spirit of the global stage.”

CGC | Nairobi will unpack the various stories and narratives that are told in the Archive by a special group of experts, diplomats and academics. The Center’s aim to inspire through research, dialogue and action compliments the objectives of the SAS Digital Archive. The series will engage in discussions on leadership, governance, digitization and access to information.

The first session will take place on July 18th at 4pm East Africa Time and will focus on the art of mastering effective leadership in an increasing volatile world.
