Dr. Salim, his wife Amne and a delegation from the Organization of African Unity (OAU) made an official visit to China (est. late 1990s) after an official visit to the OAU by President Jiang Zemin of the People's Republic of China. The visit was likely after an invitation by President Zemin following his historic visit to the OAU in May 1996.
During his visit to China, Dr. Salim also saw the Great Wall of China, met with President Zemin and other dignitaries.
