Dr. Salim with President Nyerere and President Karume in Egypt
Dr. Salim’s first diplomatic post, at the very young age of 22, was to the Arab Republic of Egypt where he initially was sent by President Karume to represent Zanzibar. After the Zanzibar Revolution and the establishment of the Union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar, President Mwalimu Nyerere appointed Dr. Salim as the United Republic of Tanzania’s Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt. In essence, he not only became the youngest Ambassador in the country’s history, but also its first Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt. Dr. Salim's wife, Amne Rifai Salim, (pictured in the far left) accompanied him on his maiden trip to Egypt as Ambassador.
