Dr. Salim with President Abeid Karume in Egypt

Dr. Salim making remarks next to President Abeid Karume - the first President of Zanzibar. This is a rare photo of Dr. Salim and President Karume who were both in Cairo, Egypt in the early 1960s. The appointment to be Ambassador to Egypt was initially supposed to be for the Zanzibari Government, which Karume personally asked Dr. Salim to take. It ended up being a transitional role because by the time he was in Egypt he had to go back to Tanzania to be sworn in as the Ambassador to Egypt representing the United Republic of Tanzania.
