The establishment of diplomatic ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United Republic of Tanzania took place on October 12, 1982 in New York. The ties were witnessed/signed by Dr. Salim and Dr. Ali Akbar Velayati, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran.
