After the Zanzibar Revolution and the establishment of the Union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar, President Mwalimu Nyerere appointed Dr. Salim as the United Republic of Tanzania’s Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt. In essence, he not only became the youngest Ambassador in the country’s history, but also its first Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt. While in Egypt, Dr. Salim was able to host President Julius Nyerere, Abdulrahman Babu and President Abeid Karume all at the same time. He presented his credentials to President Gamal Abdel Nasser.
